Moi dix Mois
began on March 19th 2002, the birth date of its creator, Mana. Moi dix Mois is French for (literal translation) “Me ten Months”.
The symbolism on this name is that it represents life; beginning and birth. It also refers to the 10 developmental months of a child, or fetus, giving literal meaning to the word “birth”. (A baby is born 40 weeks or 280 days after it is received, which is roughly 9 1/3 months, so ten months
is not completely inaccurate.) The number 10 is also special, in that Mana has given
it a special connotation of “1” being the representation of “start” and “0” implying infinity,
or eternity.
After Mana and the members of Malice Mizer
(Mana’s former career) decided to disband, Mana took it upon himself to create the unprecedented sound that currently
defines Moi dix Mois. Mana maintains that Moi dix Mois is not a band, but rather a solo career, unlike Malice Mizer, which
is probably why the line up has shifted every now and then though out the past few years.
There
really is no one way to describe the sound of MDM, though many people may call it J rock, death metal, or something similar. I think it is best to call
them Visual Kei, which doesn’t refer to the music itself, since that is so complicated to define, but rather the style
of dress amongst the members.

Mana, project leader |
Moi dix Moi’s
original line up consisted of Mana, Juka (vocals) and Kazuno (bass). With this line up they released a single, Dialogue Symphony
and an album, DixInfernal. Later on, the drummer who had been considered an “addition” was added as a project
support member. The drummer’s name was Tohru. So with this new addition in the line up, two more singles were released:
Shadows Temple and Pageant, with another
album, Nocturnal Opera. (Pageant was released after the album.) The band member, K, was later introduced.

However, with
Juka’s departure, Moi dix Mois was put on a ~roughly~ one year hiatus, with no singles or albums being released. Juka’s
last performance was the European tour of 2005. Apparently, the rest of the project members departed from Moi dix Mois as
well. Later on, at the end of 2005, the new lead singer was announced as being Seth.
The current line
up is Mana, K, and Seth. If there are any more additions/changes in the future, I will make sure to update as soon as possible.
Currently, Moi dix Mois fans are awaiting the to-be-released album “Beyond the Gate” which will feature this brand
new singer, Seth; adding a new piece to the Moi dix Mois collection.
