Born
in Kyoto,
Japan, her real name is Kaori Asada, but everyone knows her as Bonnie
Pink.
While
she was in college, playing her guitar here and there, her musical talent was obvious to record companies. They offered her
some deals, allowing her to release her first album Blue Jam in 1995. However, Blue Jam could only be called a small success
compared to other major artist at the time. Two years later, Asada released her second album Heaven’s Kitchen, using
the finances from more larger and influential record companies who heard her sound two years prior. From then on, Asada’s
talent was recognized, earning her acclaim all over Japan for being one of the most talented solo artists.
Kaori
Asada’s name “Bonnie Pink” was formed in referance to her pink hair color.
The style and sound Bonnie Pink brings to your ears is more of a soft voiced, acoustic and somewhat jazzy sound. All
of the lyrics to her songs are written by her. On top of that, she participates in music writing, too. Many of her songs are
mixes of Japanese and English and even some songs are entirely English. Unlike some J-singers, Asada’s English skills
are superb.
